Why does the B-Fit Pilates Center have a walking group?
Pilates is an excellent system to develop core strength while building strong bones as well as strengthening and stretching muscles. It is musculoskeletal exercise for muscles and bones. The muscle not exercised is the heart. For that important muscle to benefit the exercise must be sustained and aerobic. Walking is low impact and inexpensive and when done in good company, can be quite enjoyable.
How the walking group (aka: the Walkettes) began.
Charlotte enjoyed jogging with friends (or solo) for many years. As her birthdays stacked up it became prudent to transition to walking as her aerobic activity. The creation of a walking group began with a few like-minded people who wanted to enjoy being together as they exercised. The group meets and walkers choose their own pace. There is a "short", 2 mile and a "long", 3 mile route. For most walkers there is coffee after with a few minutes to finish discussions.
